Design Day

Tuesday was a big day for Kelvin.  It was the day he and his rocket team showed off all their HARD WORK! Design day at the U is really cool!  All the seniors bring their final projects, the freshman have races with some mechanism they built, and the Juniors show off their robots!  After 2 long years, they finally got to show off their rocket!  It couldn't be fully assembled because it was much too big for the building, but the actual motor was there and the other parts were close by.  It was amazing to see what I have been hearing about for so long and to see their hard work in physical form.  Lydia and I went up to the U and I got to meet other people on the team that I hadn't know before.  It was nice to put some faces to names I would hear about.  We looked at the other projects and all of them were quite impressive, of course none could hold a candle with my baby's project (but whose biased?)!  Lydia had a great time running around and everyone thought it was so cute that she had a little onesie to match the team shirts.  A weight has been lifted off Kelvin's shoulders as they passed the torch onto another team to finish up the fund raising and last minute details to get the rocket in space next year.  We will definitely be coming back for that!

Such a happy little family!

Climbing the ladder.  It is actually a lot higher than it looks.

My First 5K!!

A few months back my sister in law Lisa called and asked if I wanted to run a 5K with her.  I immediately said YES because I have always wanted to run a 5K.  So I started to train and was really good for a few weeks but quickly found out that I HATED to run!  I do not enjoy it at all!  It was a fight with myself to even workout.  So I stopped working out for a while and then switched to my workout videos which I LOVE!  I have been getting up at 5 am every other day so I will be able to do them before Lydia wakes up.

So after figuring this all out, I still decided that I wanted to do the 5K.  We wouldn't be in Texas for the first one that started and the next race was in August so Lisa and I decided to run our separate races and then maybe in the future do one together.  So Heidi and I signed up to runt he SLC Marathon's 5K on Saturday April 16th.  We left early that morning and got there with a few minutes to spare before the gun shot went off.  Let me tell you that with a race that big there is SO MUCH ENERGY!!!  It was so much fun to start and get going.  We started off running and tried to get past people but it's really hard when there are so many people around you.  We ended up power walking for most of the way, but we still made really good time for walking and burned over 650 calories!  (Heidi had a watch that also kept track of her heart rate and gave us a more accurate calorie burn number)  It was so much fun!  I was grateful that Heidi was willing to power walk most of the way, even though we did jog for a few stretches.  So here you have a convert to races!  I hate running but will gladly and look forward to doing this race again.  In fact I may schedule my Utah visits around the SLC Marathon schedule so I can do more.  With all the people and energy around, it made for a GREAT morning.  The best part was the cheering as you finished the race.  Thanks Heidi for a day I will not likely forget.

Driving up to Salt Lake at 6am!

 Just before we began!!!

Right after the gun was shot to begin!

Waving as we are walking up to cross the starting line.

And we're off....

The big finish!

The video of the end.  I think I ended up beating Heidi by 1 second.  It was so much fun!

Our goodies at the end of the race to replenish ourselves.

Our friend Matt Welling came to support the run and bought Heidi and I these commemorative mugs!  Thanks for coming Matt!  You are awesome.

Daddy's Clothes

I guess Lydia didn't want daddy to feel left out that she was wearing mommy's socks so she put on daddy's socks later that day when he came home.  Later that night she then put on one of his shirts.  Lol!!  What a funny little girl.  (Just so you all know, I do not put the idea in her head to put them on.  I will help her after she grabs them and tries to put them on herself.  When she put the shirt on we about DIED laughing! It was so funny.)

Mommy's Socks

Lydia LOVES socks!  I don't know where it came from but she will be screaming one minute and then you give her a pair of her socks to play with and she is fine.  Well this morning she woke up a lot earlier than usual and so I set her on my bed so I could finish getting ready.  She saw my socks on the bed and immediately went for them.  Only this time instead of twirling them around, she tried to put them on!!  It was so funny.  I helped her get both of them on and then she was so delighted with herself that she kept looking at her legs (because they came up to her thighs).  In fact when I put them up all the way she pulled the tops of the socks down a little so they were just under her knees.  It was so funny!!  I love my little girl so much.

She is getting more and more talkative all the time.  She now says; Daddy, Thank You, Tickle Tickle, Matthew, Hi, doggy, moo and ruff ruff.  Notice a big word that is missing???  Yep!  No mama yet.  Oh well I am sure that when she learns that word I will get tired of it at some point and wonder why I ever wanted her to learn it.  She doesn't say m's yet and when she says Matthew it's "atthew".  So cute and Matt really likes that she says his name.  She is getting more and more clingy for some reason.  I think she senses a big change coming.  I guess the fact that we are moving to Texas in 2 weeks is starting to make it's presence known.  Hopefully the transition will be smooth for her.

Relaxing Moment

Yesterday afternoon Lydia and I were playing around on my bed and she was so content and relaxed it was rather funny.  I snapped a few shots of this crazy little girl of mine chillin' out while we were reading a few books!

I love the crossed legs!

Identity Crisis!!

My brother Dan showed up yesterday at the house wearing this....

He "claims" it was an identity crisis, but we all know that he is secretly making steps in the right direction. Hahahahaha!!!  Go Utes!!

The Girls Are Back In Town!!

With Lydia being so sick this last week, and all the time I've been cooped up I was going crazy!  I felt so bad because I no longer had much patience for anyone including my daughter.  I was so sleep deprived and exhausted of being mommy that Kelvin suggested that I call up Heidi and take off for the weekend.  At first I didn't believe him, but he was serious and so I jumped right on that.  I called Heidi up and we planned a weekend getaway in Salt Lake.  It was going to be Jennifer Heidi and I but Jennifer could only come up that night for dinner. We went to the Cheesecake Factory and had a great meal.  They had so many choices we had a hard time deciding what to eat.

After the great meal and conversation we got some cheesecake to go and went to catch a movie.  Unfortunately, we didn't make it on time to see the movie.  There was a Jazz/Lakers game that night too and the theater is right by the arena.  We were 15 min late but we were going to see "The Adjustment Bureau" and the guy we were buying tickets from told us that we would have no idea what was going on.  So we took Jennifer back to her car and Heidi and I went to our hotel.  We sat on the bed and ate our overpriced and mediocre cheesecake (surprisingly the cheesecake from the cheesecake factory wasn't all that good) and watched TV.  We went to bed at about 10:45 and slept in until 9:45.  It was pure heaven!!!!!

I took a shower that morning and decided I didn't want to blow dry my hair so we headed out to a salon and got it cut.  It's cut the same way it was in Texas, but I had let it grow out. I really like long hair and wanted to keep long hair, but it was just being thrown back into a pony tail all the time.  So Heidi and I decided that I should chop it.  I love it and Kelvin loves it which also matters to me.

We next hit up Arby's for lunch and then the Red Butte Gardens.  That place would be AMAZING in May or the summer, but when we went, there was not much to be seen.  We still walked around and enjoyed ourselves and the exercise.

The last bit of our retreat was a well deserved massage!  We got a 90 min massage for only $57!  I tell you I felt like a million bucks coming out of there.  While my masseuse did go quite hard on my calf  (I ended up with a bruise) it was still worth every penny.  We jetted home from that in time to send the guys off to Priesthood session.  I know a lot of people might judge me for taking off on Conference weekend instead of listening, but I REALLY needed this.  I sharpened my saw and got my head back on straight and am ready to move forward again with life.

Family Pictures

Back in March we had our Family pictures taken.  Rich and Summer came into town and we all thought it was a great idea to grab these pictures while we could.  Who knows when we will all be together again.  My best friend Heidi was so kind as to come over on short notice and she did a fantastic job.

This is a random one she took of Matt and Lydia. I loved it.

The Fam!

All the Grandkids

Us!  I really like this picture of us.  I have tried so hard to lose my weight from my pregnancy but it has been such a long and frustrating road.  But I don't feel big in this picture!  Thank you Heidi.  You are the best.

This picture was too cute not to post.

Bubbles and Soccer

Lydia is definitely feeling better and we are SO grateful!  She has never been that sick before and it broke my heart.  So when she was doing better we decided to take her outside which is her favorite place to be.  It was here that she was introduced to bubbles and soccer.

She wasn't sure what to do about the bubbles at first but then eventually caught on to it a little.  It was unfortunately windy outside so she didn't really have an opportunity to chase them like I know she would have loved to do.

She actually had a lot of fun kicking the ball around and now whenever we are outside she wants to play with the balls.  I love that Gregory was so excited that she was playing her first bit of soccer and enjoyed it.  She caught on really quickly too.

And finally, Lydia and Sammie playing around.  These two LOVE playing together.  Just last night when we got home from Marta's, Sammie was at my parents and ran up and gave Lydia a big hug.  Lydia of course loved it and got really excited so the two of them followed each other around giving each other hugs for about 10 min.  They are so cute together.  Of course they have their moments too.  Sat evening Sammie kind of pushed Lydia out of the way so she could play with one of Lydia's toys.  Well, if you know anything about my daughter it was that she was NOT going to be pushed around.  So Lydia grabbed Sammie's pig tail and pulled her back until she was out of the way and Lydia then moved in to get her toy.  *sigh*  At least Paula was cool with it.  She told Sammie that Lydia did that because she pushed her and wouldn't let her play with her own toy so it turned into a teaching moment.  Thank goodness for understanding parents.
