Talk about Dodging a Bullet

Last year when I worked at Zions Bank, my friend and I stopped a couple of guy's trying to cash checks they forged. That was not quite a year ago and last week, he and I received a subpoena to appear in court to testify against the two guys. After explaining to the DA that I was in Texas for the summer, the state decided that if they determined that I was a critical witness they would reschedule my testimony for the Fall when we get back. I guess they decided that I didn't need to be there since my friend is testifying today. I must admit that I thought it would be kinda cool to testify in court and was a little sad when they decided they didn't need me. In the midst of this sadness, I found out that the guy that I would be testifying against was the leader of a gang in West Valley. And not only that, after he was arrested for the check fraud and then bailed out, he took his girlfriend for a drive in the woods and then killed her!!!!! The thought that I obviously had (and any sane person would have) in this situation was "so if he's willing to kill his girlfriend............" and I think you all can fill in the rest. All of a sudden I didn't feel so bad about being in Texas and missing a chance to testify against the leader of a gang who is being tried for murder. I guess they decided that the murder conviction was more important than the check fraud thus dismissing me from my civic duty. Funny how the Lord watches out for you and things that you don't expect can be blessings. Now I am not saying that this guy or his gang would have done anything, but it's nice not to have to wonder or take the chance.

On a happy note, Kelvin in all his sweetness bought me flowers yesterday. Stargazer Lilies. They are my favorite. My wedding bouquet was stargazer lilies and red roses. Gorgeous! I couldn't have asked for a better husband.

There are four more buds waiting to open and I can't wait!

Fathers Day!!

Kelvin's dad asked him to help on a remodeling job on Sat and Kelvin was happy to help. It was only supposed to take a few hours as they were just moving a drain in a shower. When they got there it was a different story. They ended up spending ALL DAY on the job and were so tired, hungry and thirsty by the time they got home. I went shopping most the day for fathers day gifts and had to run around to 4 different stores to find everything I needed. Roads were closed everywhere and a big game was going on also in our area (Texas Rangers stadium is super close to us, that's the pro baseball team for those who don't know) which caused TONS of traffic and more roads closed. I am very pleased that I have been able to drive around and not get too lost. Maybe that comes from getting more exposure to the place and I am starting to feel a lot more comfortable with everything. So when he called and said that they were going to be all day, we decided that we should just go to his parents place for the night and then go with them to church on Sun. When the guys got back, I laughed so hard! Kelvin looked like his hair had gone gray. They were filthy. I wish I had my camera to take a picture but once again I had forgotten it. (I really need to do something about this forgetting the camera thing.) We had a good night and church was really nice. Brandon and Lisa also came to church so the whole family was there on fathers day. We had a great dinner and root beer floats with cheesecake for dessert. The guys all liked there presents and it was all in all a great day.

I bought "Ben 10" dvd's for him and he thought that that was the coolest gift ever!

Here is the cutest boy in the world with his presents. A really nice multi-format DVD writer, 2 "Ben 10" DVD's, and a big Kit Kat bar.

What his parents got him. This also included a pint of chocolate ice cream and he also thought that was a pretty awesome gift as well.

Brandon got the red one and after they both opened the gifts, they realized that they got the wrong colors! Kelvin goes to the U of U, color-red, and Brandon graduated from BYU, color-blue and there is a lot of teasing that goes on regarding these schools and their colors. His parents didn't plan it that way, but it was pretty funny none the less.

Brandon and Isabella. On Sunday, Isabella was in the toy room alone when all of a sudden, we heard a shrill cry. It was obviously a cry of pain. He jumped off of the couch so fast and even beat Lisa to the door to make sure his little girl was alright. It is so sweet to watch this big tough guy melt with his baby! He is really a good father.

We got Kelvin's dad a copy of Bill O'Reilly's book "A Bold, Fresh, Piece of Humanity". He was really excited and had wanted to read it for a while. Maritza was thinking of getting it for him for Father's Day but didn't have a chance to order it in time. That was a good thing otherwise he would have had 2 copies.

And here is one of my dad's "gift's" from my mom! A pink tie with pink polka dots. As many of you know, having something pink and being a Wager man is completely taboo! My mom went shopping for a tie and didn't find anything, but found this tie and thought it would be a great gag gift. Way to go mom! It was perfect.

So to all those Father's out there, keep up the good work. We love you and need you!

Baby Jayce

As promised, here is a picture of the cute little guy. I can't get over how much he looks like his brothers, especially Braden.

Dallas Arboretum and a NEW NEPHEW!!!

This morning I went with Lisa, Krystal, Maritza, and Isabella to the Dallas Arboretum. It was a lot of fun with beautiful gardens everywhere. We had a great time even if it was a little hot. We definitely got a work out walking for almost 2 hours. I loved it! I could walk for hours and be fine and this was a nice break from the normal everyday routine I have. The one slight downside was that I had to take Kelvin to work this morning so I could have the car. I don't sleep well at night so getting up at 5:45 was a little hard when I didn't go to sleep until about midnight. But, I must say, it was worth it.

There were so many beautiful gardens and arbors around, there was no way I could put pictures of them all in here so I guess you get the readers digest version. Also I forgot to take my camera. Thank you Lisa and Maritza for all the pictures!

Kids are so funny! She loves to play with water bottles only to pick them up and drop them. It's great fun to watch.

The walk ways lead up to this hill with the lake in the background. It was gorgeous! I think we counted at least 4 brides who were taking their bridal pictures in the different gardens.

Besides being gardens, there were fairy tale stories that were recreated. This one was Peter Pan, or rather Captain Hook's ship.

This one was Alice in Wonderland and we thought that the picture was fun with all the different places we were in. Funny that the smallest of us ended up looking the biggest. But honestly, I know you all are just looking at the pictures of the baby anyway so it fits nicely!

This was called the "Sunken Garden" and was so incredibly beautiful! The pictures do not do it justice!

When it stared to get late we got hungry and found a little place to eat. The food was actually pretty good and it was nice to sit down for a little while and cool off from the heat.

And now our exciting news. WE HAVE A NEW NEPHEW!!!! Jayce Wager was born at 5:10pm mountain standard time, 7 pounds, 9 ounces, and 19 inches long. I don't have many more details but Dan and Amy have another little boy! She is doing well and the delivery went well. I don't even have a picture to post but as soon as I get one I will let you get a look at the newest Wager in the clan!

Isabella's First Birthday

One of the great things about being in Texas for the summer is all the family things that we get to be here for. Last year we were here when Isabella was born and Krystal graduated from high school, and this year were here for the celebration of Isabella's first birthday! The first birthday is a big deal for Kelvin's family so a huge party was thrown yesterday and a lot of people were there. It was a lot of fun to be with his extended family and we had a great time. I have been really bad with taking pictures lately and only got a few of the celebration, but I think they still tell the story nicely.

Kelvin doesn't like to take pictures so I have to get a quick shot in where I can and unfortunately, his head got cut off. But a retake was not an option so this is what we got. I still think it's a cute picture of us though.

This was the game we bought when we went to Bryce Canyon that broke on us. Kelvin and his dad made a new one and the guys loved it! They were playing the whole time the party was going on. This is Larry (Kelvin's uncle) making a shot. He did really well and won most of the games!

Isabella opening her presents. She got very excited about a few of them.

I kept trying to get a good picture of her but she would never look at the camera for more than a second. So this is the best face shot you get. Isn't she adorable though?

I loved this! She got a piece of tissue paper stuck to the bottom of her foot and was walking all around the house. It was so cute I had to get a shot.

We are still doing really well despite the heat. I am excited to be done with my class. All I have left is some research and a short 15 page paper and then I am done! I am a little nervous about getting a job when we get back to Utah because jobs seem to be a little scarce right now. I did have a dream the other night though that I was offered a job in Utah and the guy asked me if getting paid $70,000 a year would be ok. I tried not to jump for joy and pretended to think about the offer for a minute when he said how about $75,000. I didn't wait long to say yes for fear of the offer being rescinded. When I woke up and told Kelvin about the dream he got really excited and joked about "what if that really happened". I think secretly he is really hoping that that particular dream will come true. I am just hoping that we will be blessed with a job. Good thing that I have lots of time this summer to get my resume into tip top shape.

Fort Worth Zoo

We love the zoo and we go whenever we can. On our honeymoon we went to the Fort Worth Zoo and loved it. We have been to the Hogle Zoo a few times and it's fun too, but the Fort Worth Zoo is HUGE! Lockheed Martin sells discount tickets to the zoo so Kelvin picked some up and we went yesterday with a friend of his from work and his wife. It was fun, but really hot! Last time we went the animals were very active, a dancing elephant to a pacing jaguar and a roaring lion. This time the animals were sleeping and not moving much. That could have been because it was in the afternoon in June and hot, as opposed to morning time in early October. Even so, we did have a good time and it was fun to meet another couple and spend some time with them. We didn't take many pictures this time because we have so many pictures of zoo's. But here are a few pictures we did take.

I don't remember what this animal is but it was so funny just sitting there watching us.

The Bald Eagle! One of the most majestic creatures on earth.

These next two are of a red tail hawk. Kelvin loves this animal and thinks it's beautiful. I have to agree.

The turtles were out and eating and it was so funny to watch them. I don't know why but I love turtles. They just seem like an animal you could adore. I know to some that sounds strange, but I think they are so cute! There were a bunch of kids from day care's all over the place and one group of kids came running up yelling "Tortuga's, tortuga's". I got a huge grin on my face and I looked at Kelvin because I knew what they were saying without having to think about it. (It's the spanish word for turtle.) The video isn't very long because I asked Kelvin to get it on video and he didn't care too much for the turtles. It made me sad because you don't get the full effect of just how cute they were when they were eating.

So there was our Friday at the zoo. The rest of the day we spent relaxing. I haven't been feeling too well the past few days. I think I might have a sinus infection so we didn't do too much else. But it was still a good day and it was nice to spend it together.

Scared? Me? Never!

I didn't sleep last night. As you all are so curious, I am sure, and asking me why, while sitting on the edge of your seats, I will tell you.......I was introduced to a real Texas storm. I have always loved rain and lightning storms, but really only remember storms from Utah which are pretty mild. Last summer in Texas there were a few storms but not quite like this. They were over relatively quickly and not really that bad. Along with always loving storms, I have always hated loud noises. This is not a good thing when you find yourself in a severe thunderstorm in Texas. And what is a severe thunderstorm you might ask? I will give you the 3 criteria that classifies a storm as severe.

1. Hail that is 3/4 of an inch or greater in diameter

2. Winds 58 miles per hour or greater (the winds here are 65 and greater right now)

3. Tornadoes

And add onto that a crazy amount of thunder and lightning and you have a Texas severe thunder storm. Our apartment is located in the back of the building and there is a little ally way behind the complex. That alley way is covered by trees so we get very little if any sunlight. The lightning is so bright that it seems like it's in front of our apartment when it flashes. And the thunder is so LOUD!! It is rattling windows, setting off car alarms, and dogs are crying and howling. The power has gone off numerous times but luckily it has not stayed off for long periods of time. It got so bad last night that I woke up Kelvin when I got really scared and cuddled with him almost all night. Whenever the thunder would crash I would jump about 3 feet, he would laugh, and then I would hold onto him tighter. Neither of us slept much because it was so loud. I don't know of any damage yet, I haven't dared to venture outside. But we are safe and I think it is over now so hopefully we can get some sleep tonight.

Catch Up!

For those of you wondering why there hasn't been a post in a while, we moved to an apartment two weeks ago and just got the internet today. So, now we get to play catch up. Lets start with the not so good stuff.....Our new apartment.

We were so excited to get a place closer to Kelvin's work, and when our original place fell through, I spent a long time searching for an alternative. I found a place closer and cheaper and we thought it was going to be great. When we moved in, it was completely different from what we thought. The place was a disaster. I will spare you the pictures we had to take. It was basically a dump and I spent the Saturday night we moved in crying. We went to the office on Sunday and had one of the girls look at the place and she was appalled by the place. We went to his parents house on Sunday and showered there (we couldn't in our new place) and on Monday we talked to the Manger. There was an apparent mix up. The maintenance crew didn't know people were moving in so they didn't do anything and the cleaning crew, well I don't want to say anything because it probably won't be very nice. The maintenance crew came over Monday morning and fixed everything very fast! They were so nice and great to work with. The manager also apologized for the mix up and we have been compensated for our time in the apartment when we couldn't use the facilities. After some cleaning from me, the place is good to go and we are settled in. It's so nice to have our own place. And this has turned out to be a blessing. I am now more grateful for our place back in Utah!

And here is the fun stuff.

Kelvin got some free tickets to the Grand Prairie AirHogs game on Friday June 5. They were playing the Pensacola Pelicans and walked all over them! I don't remember the score but I think it was 13 to 6. It was a lot of fun. I love baseball games and this was our first one together.

Along with baseball, I LOVE thunderstorms and the rain. In Texas you get some awesome storms and I have missed them when we moved back to Utah. It's hard to catch on camera and this was not a big storm, but here are some pictures of one night when we were at his parents house still.

This was the beginning of the storm and it went from this...

to this, in a few minutes. It was so cool!

And now to Brandon's birthday party! We got together on Sunday and had dinner and pie to celebrate. On Saturday, Kelvin went to the store to get his present and came back with 2 packages of double stuff Oreo's and 5 dollars in cash. I laughed, but thankfully, Brandon loved it.

And last but not least, my parents had their 32nd wedding anniversary on June 2nd. Dan and Amy put together a present with all our pictures. They sent me a picture of the finished product and I think it's so cute. So happy anniversary mom and dad! We love you!
