Frisco Heritage Museum

Lisa called me the other day and said that there was a small museum celebrating the start of Frisco and that we should go. Well I am always up for a trip out of the house so I said yes! It was really kind of a fun little place. It was small but we didn't pay much to get in at all and there were some fun things that even we enjoyed. I was a little worried that morning that I would have to cancel because Lydia was having fits, but luckily she calmed down when we were there so it was enjoyable.

Can't believe that people actually fit all of their possessions in such a small wagon.

Set up of how a living room typically looked. So cute!

See that metal stand with all the wires hanging down? That was your first perm machine! Apparently they would put your hair in some claw looking things that hang on the bottom of the wires and then use heat and electricity to do a "permanent wave". It would get up to 200 degrees!!!!! YIKES!

Isabella chillin with Lydia on the elevator!

They had an exhibit dedicated to quilting and some of those quilts were gorgeous! Anyone who knows my mom knows that she is quite the quilter and does an amazing job as well so this one's for you mom!

An old school quilting machine. Yeah, I think times have changed a bit since then.

I think riding one of these things would have been so much fun.

This gazebo reminded me of The Sound of Music and if it had benches all around the inside, you better believe that I would have been jumping on them!

I love houses like this. My dream home is a Southern Colonial style home with a wrap around porch. People don't have porches these days and I think that's sad. I miss the good ole days when you would see people just sitting on their porch for the evening talking.

The "twain" as Isabella kept saying all morning!

And this was how we kept Lydia content. Too bad she only ate 2 ounces of the 6.

The rest of the day has been quite a trial!!! Lydia has been screaming all day because she is tired but refuses to sleep and because she is hungry but she refused to eat! She didn't have a temperature and her teeth didn't seem to be bothering her and I was about ready to pull my hair out. She was up most of the night because her acid reflux had gotten so bad she was having trouble sleeping. She would wiggle onto her side and then her head would jerk back and she would start crying. I felt so bad for her but I had given her her medicine and it didn't seem to be working. So it didn't help that neither of us got much rest last night. Then when she refused to eat, I started to get worried. She had eaten about 6 ounces by 4pm when she should have had about 24. Luckily Maritza came to the rescue and fed Lydia some water which seemed to calm her down and then she ate 6 ounces of her milk. She has been doing a lot better this evening but I am wiped out! Hopefully tonight goes better.

How Many Does It Take?

5! That's right, Lydia is now on her 5th formula. Poor little thing has had so many tummy problems with formula's that we are now trying her 5th one. I must say that she has been great throughout all her changes. The Dr told us that babies can struggle switching formula's so we needed to implement it slowly, but she has taken right to it which is a blessing. I have been able to change her formula when I knew that the one she was on was not working for her little body, without any complaints or problems from her. Probably because she knew that something was wrong and she was hoping and praying like the rest of us that the newest formula would work. Well after many prayers, I think we might have found a winner. So far this formula seems to be working well and we haven't had any problems so far. I really hope that this one works because there aren't many more options out there that we could try. I do feel good about this one and keep praying that she continues to do well. It's amazing how resilient babies are. She has had to be though with everything she has had to do since she was born. We have moved 3 times and will move twice more within the year, changed formulas, been on her first plane ride, had a pretty drastic change in climate and many other things. She can pretty much adapt to anything at this point.

Unfortunately she has now taken to spitting up. She hasn't been a spitter so I was hopeful that she had escaped the Wager gene (we are know for being babies that spit up an incredible amount and having babies just like us), but it's looking like that is not the case. I personally think that her acid reflux has a lot to do with it but at least she is happy.

Her naps are starting to come along as well. I started to feel like she needed to start "crying it out" for her naps. This really frightened me because I read in a book that if you let babies do that they have abandonment issues. I knew that as a newborn I would never do that because up to about 3 months you really can't spoil a child and when they are that young, a babies wants are their needs. I always said when she is a little older and it's a power struggle rather than a need to be comforted, I would start. I had no idea that the power struggle would start so soon but it has and I was able to tell that this past week as I have had a hard time listening to my child scream. It didn't even take a full week to get her used to it. I knew that she could fall asleep on her own, she does it every night when we put her to bed, so I had hoped that she would catch on really quick with her naps and luckily she has. When I start putting her down I cuddle with her and sing a song and she will understand what is going to happen half way or a quarter into the song and start to cry. But I just finish my song and then lay her down, sometimes she is crying and sometimes not, give her a kiss and then leave the room. She then screams but now it's for about 1 min and then she falls asleep. She knows now that mom is not going to come back in. Before I would go in about every 5 min and only let her cry for 15 but she would always fall asleep before the 15 min was up. Now I believe that she has gotten a pretty good handle on it. The only thing we need to work on now is the length of time she takes for her naps. I would like to have hour long naps rather than 30 min. I think that will come in time though. For now, I am just grateful that she is taking naps.

3 Month Pictures

I finally put the pictures of Lydia's 3 month photo shoot on my computer so now I get to share them all with you. Thanks Lisa! They turned out awesome!

Love this one!

This is a pretty good picture of the glare that she can give you if you do something that she doesn't like!

My little goober with her many different faces.

So happy!

Sweet baby feet!

Lydia's Personality

My mom told me once that this generation of babies all have very strong spirits and are very anxious to experience life. This could not be more true with my little girl. She is already showing her personality in ways I didn't expect. She can be very particular about things sometimes. She likes to be held with her face turned out so she can see everything going on. She doesn't like to be left alone for too long (being left alone is when mom is out of sight) or sitting by herself for too long. She likes to be walked around with one arm around her chest and the other holding her pacifier in. If you try to deviate she will let you know that that is not what she wants. She is starting to do pretty well about taking naps only screaming for a couple minutes before she falls asleep, but she refuses to sleep for long amounts of time. I can only think that this is because she want's to see and hear everything that is going on. There are times when she even refuses to take a nap because there is so much to see and do.

When she is tired and in her crib but doesn't want to sleep she will lift up both her legs and her booty and then slam them down on the mattress to try to keep herself awake. She will also do this in her sleep to try to wake herself up. It is not always successful, but so darn cute!!!

Then there are those glares! She has the death glare down so well that it still amazes everyone when they get it. She will give it when someone interrupts mommy time or even try's to make her smile when she doesn't want to. But when that girl smiles and laughs, it lights up the entire room. All you have to do sometimes is look at her and she will burst out laughing. She loves to have her legs and feet kissed and played with. She is a joy that I cherish. She is the most expressive baby that I have EVER seen. In fact I have a whole folder in my pictures dedicated to her many faces. She has a look for everything and it is hilarious!

Yesterday at Church I was talking to a lady while walking with Lydia outside the chapel during sacrament meeting and the conversation turned to being a mother. I told her that no body warned me that being a mom was going to be so hard. She said that she felt like she was in the same situation when her first was born and wondered what was wrong with her and why she didn't have the perfect babies. She told me that she realized that she needed to savor the "perfect moments". I loved that. There will never be perfect days or weeks or months, but there will be perfect moments and that is what makes being a mother all worth it. I have had a few of those perfect moments and am amazed at how much they bring this little child into my heart more and more.

New Callings

This last week marked the half way point of us being in Texas. We only have 6 more weeks until we head home. So when a member of the bishopric called to speak with Gregory we thought there is no way it would be a calling. We were wrong. He met with us and told us that there was a dire need in the Primary for teachers and even though we would only be here for 6 more weeks, they gave us a calling to be teachers to the 7 year olds. Obviously we said yes and then he told us it would be great if we would go to our class today and get to know them. We were told that we didn't have to teach because another sister who was called was asked to teach so all we would do is get to know them if we wanted we didn't have to. So after sacrament meeting we made our way to the Primary and guess what? The teacher didn't show up for our class or the other 7 year old class. When we showed up and asked the Primary President which one was our class, she said "oh good you showed up", then handed us the manual and said "the other teacher isn't here so we will be combining the classes today and you get to teach. Here's your Baptism by fire!" So we went in and taught 2 classes of 7 year olds off the cuff. It was surprisingly fun and the kids all loved the baby.

Normally we have to walk around with Lydia all through Sunday school and Relief Society and Priesthood because she will not stay calm. But when we took her to Primary, that girl could not get enough of everything going on around her. She stared at the music leader and the pictures and loved all the kids. We sat through all of Primary without a peep from her. After being amazed by this for a little bit, Maritza made a really good point. Almost the entire time I was pregnant, I was in the Primary. She is used to hearing the songs and the kids and so she probably felt at home and where she was used to being. It was so cute and we are excited to see how the rest of the summer goes.

Ever since we got married, I have had nothing but callings in the Primary. First as a teacher with Gregory and then as a counselor in the Presidency and now as a teacher again. Those are the only callings I have had. Gregory has been teasing me about it saying that the Lord must have something in mind for me with the Primary or I haven't learned my lesson yet. I just laugh. I really like the Primary. Sure there are times when I get tired of it and want to be in Relief Society, but for the most part, the Primary is one of the best callings you can get.

Isabella's 2nd B-day

On Saturday we went to Lisa's and celebrated Isabella's 2nd Birthday. I made the cake as was previously debuted but it took a lot longer than anticipated. The problem was that I used the cream cheese icing which tasted great, but was a lot more runny than other frostings. It was a long process but turned out awesome! I still loved doing it and am excited to do more. I do however have a firm belief in cakes not only looking good but tasting good as well. That is why I hate fondant. It will hold up to anything, but it tastes awful. So I will never be able to do some of the really cool things out there, but you better believe that people will eat my cake!

Working hard!!

Almost done...

Finally Finished!

Yummy dinner. I love hot dogs and watermelon.

This happened before any mom's in the room saw. I started to protest but it wouldn't have mattered much since Gregory protested right back and said that the cold of the watermelon helped her gum's feel better from the pain of teething. I'm sure it did make them feel better and all 3 dad's in the room agreed that she wouldn't be harmed by a little watermelon.

Isabella see's her cake for the first time. She was so excited and just kept saying "Elmo" all night.

Blowing out the candles.

Yumm!!!

Gregory bought her Duplos for her Birthday and had to show her how to use them. She loved them.

Lydia just chillin at the party.

Dance Dance Revolution!!! OH YEAH!

Chile vs Espana

For those of you who don't know, the World Cup is currently in session. I have always watched the World Cup as I love soccer and it has been a lot of fun to watch it with Gregory's family as they get really into the games. Since Gregory served his mission in Spain, he tends to route for them as the rest of the family routes for Chile (where his mom is from). This year, Spain and Chile had to play each other the last game of the first rounds. Everyone was so nervous and excited and wondering who Gregory was going to cheer for. The family in Chile were praying that he would route for them but he didn't want to take a side just yet. Game day was on Friday at 1pm and we were all glued to the TV for 2 hours. Spain did win by 2 to 1 but because of how many points Chile had in the first rounds they moved forward to the next rounds. Chile plays Brazil today and Spain plays Argentina tomorrow. Both of them face difficult teams and we are now at the one loss elimination phase. But we will have a team to route for for a while. Chile or Spain if either of them win and Germany who is doing VERY well as that is where my roots come from. So who will win this World Cup??? I am secretly hoping that Chile will be the surprise under dog team and take it all but we will see what happens. Any team that loses a game from here on out is gone. Good Luck!!

"Daddy? Are you ok with this?"

"What about Nana?" (This is not the Spain flag we left all our Spain stuff in Utah, but this is the Canary Islands flag which is the mission Gregory went to.)

"This is much better!!"

"Let's get this game going!"

House Decor. Can you tell who which team is getting the most support?

And here we are!! This is a pretty good shot of the red hair blunder!

Lunch Date

The other day Lisa invited us over for lunch and we were happy to accept the invitation and get out of the house for a bit. Apparently Lydia was having a great time as she was all smiles and we got a great video of her laughing a little bit.

The next day I decided to dye my hair as it has been starting to turn blond. It is a family genetic thing. My hair has gotten a lot darker in the past 2 years and then all of a sudden I am getting blond hairs randomly growing in which then looks like white hair. I finally broke down and bought some color at home stuff. It was supposed to turn my hair a medium golden brown color. Yeah, it turned red! Thank goodness it's a 28 wash dye so it should be coming out. Gregory say's it looks good but he also couldn't stop laughing when it turned red instead of the intended color. At least I provided a lot of humor for him at work.

Fathers Day

We had a great Father's Day yesterday! All week long I have been teasing Gregory about the gift I got him telling him that he would LOVE LOVE LOVE it. He then turned into a little kid asking me at least 3 times a day "what did you get me?" He was so excited when the day finally arrived and he got to open his present. Man oh man did he about have a heart attack when he opened it. I got him the Super Mario Brother's game for the Wii. His parents got a Wii a few weeks ago and we have been enjoying it all month so I thought that since eventually we would get a Wii, I would get ahead of the game and get him this game now. He was so excited and wanted to play it right then. In fact he didn't waste any time and opened it right away and went to the other room to play for a little while. He was a pretty happy boy.

I have to brag a little about how wonderful Gregory is. I could not have asked for a better husband or a better father to our child. He is so giving and kind, always thinking about me and the baby before himself. He is so willing to sacrifice to give us everything we want or need. The best friend I ever had and the most wonderful person I have known. Gregory, I love you so much and will always be grateful you chose me to be yours forever. Te Quiero Mucho!!!

All dressed up and ready to go.

Happy Fathers Day!!

Family Picture

Gregory took these nest two because he thought she looked so cute sitting in the office chair.

Gregory's Dads present from us.

Brandon's presents from Lisa.

This is a bad picture of me but it shows you just how excited Gregory was about his present.

"Can I open it yet?"

Just a little boy in man's clothing.

Lydia's Father's Day Present..."Don't look at me...That smell is coming from Daddy!" Gregory LOVED it!

All the boy's playing his new game.
