Strep
Pretty sure that my baby has strep. We just found out that a friend from the party is going in to the Dr today and she is pretty sure that it's strep. I knew that that is what Lydia was showing signs of, but am glad that the Dr didn't make us pay for the culture. Her rash is starting to get better and her mood is getting better. Glad to know that my "mother's instinct" was correct.

Sicky Sicky!
This winter it is no secret that we have had our share of a sick child. Well, it will come as no surprise to anyone that she is sick again. There has been another bad virus going around and on Sat at the party she was being quite ornery but we thought that was just because she had missed her afternoon nap. Sat night she was up a lot in the middle of the night but nothing too terrible, just kept me up for a while. Then on Sunday she was not acting herself and we again thought that it was just from the big day she had the day before. We stayed home from church and she took a couple really good naps, longer than usual. Then that night was AWFUL! She didn't sleep at all, literally she was up all night. My mom came and got her about 3am so I could get a couple hours of sleep. It was so sad because you could see in her eyes that she was miserable. She has been sick before, but this was different. It was the worst she has ever been. When the morning came around she was still doing so bad that I got dressed and took her into the Dr.
They worked us in which was great and when he examined her, he decided that she had the bad virus with an ear infection. He wasn't sure that she had strep and didn't do a culture because we don't have insurance, but because she had an ear infection he gave her an antibiotic that would kill off strep as well. She had developed a rash in the morning and it got a lot worse by the end of the day and today. It was yesterday afternoon when I was pretty sure that she had strep throat. I have never seen her this sick before and all she would do is sit in your arms and whimper. She didn't want to be let down and even stopped eating and drinking. This was hard when I was a walking zombie all day because I had 2 hours of sleep that night and the night before was only about 4. Thank goodness my mom was there and she was able to help me a little. The Dr told me that if she didn't have a wet diaper for 8 hours, she would probably be admitted into the hospital because she was so sick. Luckily I didn't have to force anything down her, she ended up drinking barely enough pedialite to keep her going.
Last night she did better, but was still up a lot and I didn't get enough sleep but more than the night before. I have actually been sick myself with a sinus infection and have been on antibiotics and Kelvin was getting sick yesterday so we are a great bunch! Today I really felt like I had more energy and have been more focused. I was able to get some stuff done with my business and even made a little money. Things are looking up and I can't stop praying that this horrible sick season will end soon because I don't know how much more I can literally take. I really hope she sleeps tonight because I have to work tomorrow night and Thursday night and need my sleep. We will see how it goes because I put her down at 6:30 tonight and she has been up 3 times since then in a 2 hour time frame. I'm dreading tonight already.
Today has gone a little better and you can tell that the antibiotics are starting to work and she is starting to get her spunk back. I think it will take another day or two before she really starts eating again. She did better today in that she didn't throw up the solid food she ate. While her appetite is still almost nothing, she will still eat a little formula which is great so she is getting some type of nutrients. The rash is worse but hopefully will go away soon. We are praying for a speedy recovery and a very restful night, for all of us!

Birthday-Graduation-Going Away Party
Since so many events were happening in 2 1/2 months, I decided to consolidate all the events and have one big party! I think it was a wise decision because throwing a first birthday party, a graduation party and a going away party are 3 big events that all deserve a party. But I am way to busy with a new business, a toddler and trying to find an apartment in Texas when we leave in a month to do 3 parties! Thus the consolidation.
The party was really fun and there were a lot of people who came that we were excited to see. It was mostly those family and friends that we are closest too and will miss tons while we are living in Texas. We had a light lunch provided with chips and cupcakes! The original plan was to make a cake for Lydia's first birthday, a cake in the shape of Texas for our going away and a graduation cake for Kelvin. Things have been so busy that I really didn't want to make 3 cakes. So last minute I decided to make 1 cake for the graduation. (By last min I mean the morning of the party is when I decided to make it.) It was nice to have something fun as a centerpiece and I think it turned out pretty well.

The food, pretty yummy!!
The cake! I even gave him black curly hair. It looks a lot like him I think.
An assortment of cup cakes. Don't you love all the fun colors?
A few pictures of some of the guests!
And finally, all the presents! She was so cute and every present she opened she got really excited and treated it like it was the best present she had ever received.

Happy Happy Birthday!!!
My baby turned 1 yesterday! As crazy as that seems, she is definitely not a baby anymore. She really has been in the toddler stage for quite a few months as she was walking at 7 months and is way ahead of the milestones for her typical age. In fact she is doing things that they say a 18 month old would be starting to do. She is too smart for her (or ours for that matter) own good. We love her so much and are happy she is here.
While most people reminisce about the day their baby was born when their first birthday rolls around, we were laughing and saying that we never want to go back to that day again! I know I know, it's so cliche, but it's true. In fact we visited some friends in the hospital a few weeks ago when they had their first baby and I was having a slight anxiety and panic attack! It brought back all the memories of being in the hospital and when our little squeaker was born. I thought I was over the trauma of her birth, but apparently I'm not yet. So yesterday we took our daughter out for a great day of fun while we laughed about how awful that day was one year ago.
My family has a tradition that on the morning of your birthday, the rest of the family will come in and wake you up singing happy birthday. You also get your first present which is a new shirt that you get to wear that day. We did that with Lydia and she kind of freaked out. She cried at first but then when the song was over, I held her and she realized that everything was okay, she was calm. When she opened her present she did really well and ripped off a piece of wrapping at a time. The funny thing was that when she ripped it off, she gave everyone in the room a piece. So cute. What a good sharer. Here she is ripping off paper and giving a piece to everyone.
Her birthday breakfast complete with fruity Cheerios and pancakes. She loved it.
Daddy and Lydia! Love this picture.
Here she is in her new shirt. I love it. Such a beauty.
We took Lydia to her one year checkup and then took her out to lunch. Her appointment went well. She checked in at 75th % in her height and 25th % in her weight. Just the same as always. The Dr laughed and said a book could be written on her stats because they are so consistent. Tall and skinny!! The shots were really hard to watch because the nurse was new and didn't go fast so I think it hurt Lydia more. It was so sad. But she is now on milk and we can save on formula. Lunch went really well and Lydia ate a lot. We went to Red Robin and she enjoyed cantaloupe, turkey, bread and fries.
Because it was her birthday we got her ice cream to celebrate at lunch. She LOVED IT!! She scarfed down quite a bit. It was hilarious!
"Yum mommy. What is this?"
"It's MINE!! All mine."
Then we went to the small Aquarium that was really pretty good for being smack dab in the middle of the desert. It was fun and there was a bit to see. My mom came with us and then Heidi and her kids met us there.
She saw this frog and got really excited and wanted to touch it but then when she got near it it started to croak. That scared her a little and she wouldn't have anything to do with it for a while. When we finally got her to realize that it was okay, we got a great picture.
Cute Ellie so excited to be at the Aquarium.
She loved the fish, but the one thing she loved the most was the jelly fish. They had some that glowed and changed colors which she was fascinated with.
Lydia and Sienna were having a great time together.
Such a great time in fact that Lydia insisted on pushing Sienna.
Me, my mom, and Lydia. Sorry it's not such a great picture. The lighting was weird.
Heidi, myself and our kiddos.
I think Lydia is afraid of the Happy Birthday song because when we sung it to her again that night, she didn't like it again.
"I don't know about this mom."

"Okay..... I'll try it."

We really had a great day and can't believe that she is already 1. We are looking forward to the future and the many more birthdays to come. Happy Birthday our precious little squeaker!!

What Have I Gotten Myself Into?
Ever since Lydia was born I have been feeling kind of empty. I love my child and have been very grateful that I have been able to stay home with her, but I have felt like I wasn't contributing or doing something for myself. The first few days I was working for my dad I loved it but then I missed my baby. I knew that working full time wasn't for me, and I wanted to be able to be home with my baby whenever I wanted. There are not many work at home jobs. Then the last day that I was working for my dad, one of the customers came to pick up her car and told me that she worked for Mary Kay and asked if I had ever tried their products. I told her I had and that I really liked the eye make up remover. We set up an appointment so she could come over and show me the new stuff they have. When she came over my mom, Amy and I fell in love with the new stuff they had. My face had never felt so soft and so good! After a short deliberation, I decided to join just so we could get our products at a great discount. Then after talking with Jessica (the girl who showed us Mary Kay) I realized that there is a lot of money that could be made being a consultant. Since we are going to be tight on funds when we get to Texas (and have been all through school), we both talked about it and decided that it would be a good supplementary income that would help us save up for our house!
Everything that I have learned about Mary Kay I have been very impressed with. It was designed for women to be able to have a job but still be able to be flexible with our home lives! And their philosophy is God first, family second, and Job third. I'm so excited to be working for such a good company. I could go on and on about them but I won't because while I'm interested, I know most people probably won't be. But working with them so far has been so wonderful and has revamped my sense of self worth. I feel like I am contributing again and helping out with our financial situation. I'm so excited about this mostly because the products sell themselves they are SO good!! But now I can't believe that I am employed again and can still be at home with my baby during the day! Life is so good right now.
The first party I had was at my house and I made some tasty treats! Pictured here are vegetables with dressing, Monster cookie bars, red velvet brownies with a white chocolate frosting, and fruit! The drink was water with lemon, orange, and lime slices in it. Very tasty!!
My first party! I was so nervous and so excited at the same time. I have some good trainers and am learning a lot.

My Little Hula Girl
My parents recently got back from Hawaii and we had a big family dinner on Sunday to get everyone together. We made a BIG Hawaiian mean that was SOOO good. Then we gathered round the TV while my dad showed us pictures of their adventures. The kids all got pretty excited about the Octopus that he played with when he was scuba diving. It even inked all over him! After those laughs and lots of questions, came present time!! Of course the kids were very excited as usual and we all got some really good stuff. Lydia got a hula skirt and a flower lei which was HILARIOUS when she would then dance and shake those little hips of hers. We got some good video of it but Dan got the best and he will be sending it to us so we can get it up here for you all to see. But for now you will have to do with the short clips we got.
This is my present. A beautiful necklace that I love! Sorry you can't see it very well. I should have taken it out of the package before I took the picture.

Part of the hula dance. She got so excited when everyone was cheering for her. It is a little noisy because all the other kids were quite thrilled about their presents and were not interested in watching Lydia dance. There was also Hawaiian music playing in the background. We will get another video too when it's quieter and she will be more apt to shake those hips!
And the other part. This one is my favorite. I can't wait to see what Dan got. There was a lot that we didn't catch on our camera in time.

This is Gregory's gift. A fun Tiki statue. It resembles Peace and Prosperity, lets hope it rubs off on us a little!
Lydia with her hula skirt. The video's are better and let you get a better view of it. It is adorable!
Samantha and Rachel ready to eat!
Now doesn't that meal look fantastic?
She claimed the top of the suit case as her spot once Grandma and Grandpa were done handing out presents.
"I'm queen of the world!"

Is This for Real?
On Saturday night I got to witness my little brother going to a high school dance. He's been on dates before but this was the first one that I got to see. It was a girls choice and their whole group dressed up like nerds. The funny part was watching him wait by the door for her to come and get him and then when he got a little awkward when we wanted to take pictures. He went with a good friend of his named Addy and I just think she is adorable. After a couple of pictures he declared that picture time was done and they should be on their way. They had a great time and I had fun watching him get ready and go on a date!
