Why Make a Plan?

Sometimes we wonder why we make plans with our life. The Lord always has a way of changing these plans and we end up doing things completely different. One of these moments happened the other week. Kelvin told me about a program at school that will allow him to get 2 Masters degrees for the price and time of 1. It's a combined Mechanical Engineering and MBA program that will incredibly enhance his resume and would be quite an incredible opportunity for him. We had been planning and preparing to move to Layton for the summer while he interned at Hill Air Force Base which would have lasted this next summer and his last year of school. We were also thinking of possibly staying with the Air Force for his job after he graduated. But with this economy we wouldn't be making as much with him getting a job right after he graduated with his Bachelors, not to mention who knows what kind of state the Air Force will be in in a few years. With his Masters Degree he would start out at $10,000 more a year and hopefully with the time he is in school, things might change a little with the economy. Either way, he would definitely have more of an edge with this double Masters degree.

While we were thinking about the possibilities of him doing the Masters program, Lockheed Martin called and asked if he was going to come back to intern with them through the summer. When he got home and told me about this it brought back an impression I had a week or so ago. We were driving in the car and he started to talk about working with the Air Force and I got really uncomfortable and Lockheed Martin popped into my head. Which is weird because I really didn't want to drive with a baby to Texas this summer. Last year it was Kelvin who had the impression we should go to Texas so I guess this year it was my turn. After a lot of talking and praying, we both felt really good about him staying in school and doing the Masters program which would also mean we would go to Texas for the summer again. He should be able to keep his job with the College of Science next year which will be great for him to get homework done as he will be starting some of the classes for the program next year. One of the guys in his rocket group is very interested in doing the program with him so he will have someone he knows the whole time which is a bonus.

So our plans and lives have once again been turned upside down once again and we have no idea what the future holds. But we are hopeful and excited because we both feel this is right and there will be many good things come out of this. Including giving our Texas family time to get to know the baby as we will be in Utah for 3 more years of school. We figure it's also better to get it all done now when the baby is young instead of him trying to come back to get a Masters later when there are more responsibilities. While we are excited for this new path our lives are on, one thing is for sure; you can never go wrong when you trust in the Lord!

That sounds like a great opportunity to get his MBA and a masters in engineering. If he can get in, you guys should definitely go for it because now is not a good time to be looking for a job right out of school. Plus like you mentioned it will be great for your family in Texas to be able to get to know your baby girl. They grow up and change so quickly, so it would be good if they and her could bound while she's still little. But I know you know all of this already, I'm just excited because it sounds like a great opportunity.

Traveling around with little babies really is a piece of cake. . . it's when they are between age 1 to 2 1/2 that it becomes not fun at all. That's just my experience. So, I say go for whatever as long as you are able to be together as a family.
